As a former Managing Director of Black and Lizars (and great great grandson of John Lizars), Geoffrey brings a wealth of experience in Optometry to the team. Cancer Support

Diagnosed with a Neuro-Endocrine Tumour with large liver metastases and having not responded well to chemotherapy, Neil was told that he had just a few weeks left to live. That was in September 2010. Since then, by taking an integrated approach to modern medicine, intelligent eating, appropriate physical activity, a positive attitude and with his family’s support he is living (and enjoying) a full life – and is ready to share his story with cancer sufferers, in sessions arranged through Core Health.


Marney Ackroyd

Marney graduated in 1996 with an Honours degree in Nutrition and Dietetics.

Initially working in the North of England as a general acute hospital Dietitian for 4 years where she specialised in Ear Nose & Throat cancers and home enteral nutrition, she moved to a research post in 2000. The research post looked at realistic weight management expectations for the general population and developed a weight management programme to meet expectations.

In 2006 the weight management programme was commissioned by the Scottish Government for delivery across Scotland.

In 2013 Marney made available her service to Core Health.

Nicola is a level 3 REPS yoga teacher and holds a Yoga Teacher Diploma. She has further qualifications for pregnancy, well women and people living with cancer.

Yoga is about the whole person. The physical body, yes, but also the mind and our emotions.  Life can be so much better when movement is easier, breathing is freely working and relaxation is full.

The aim is to make yoga accessible despite physical restrictions.

Irene Beldon Irene is a member of British Wheel of Yoga and qualified as a yoga teacher through the Inner Yoga Trust. She has 25 years’ experience in the field of holistic health and believes in the innate wisdom of the body to maintain balance and health.

Initially from a medical science background she has worked in the NHS for a number of years as well as teaching in further, higher and adult education.

She trained in London in biodynamic psychotherapy which is a body-based therapeutic approach that recognises the relationship between body, mind and emotions.

Claire EastClaire has been studying Tai Chi Chuan and Qi Gong for 13 years, with several teachers in both Wu and Yang styles of Tai Chi Chuan.

She is an instructor with the Jing Shen School of Tai Chi Chuan, and is a registered instructor with the British Council for Chinese Martial Arts.

The Qigong course is based on the Yin and Yang principles of traditional Chinese medicine and comprises a set of eight exercises involving the integration of the mind, body and breath to increase internal energy (Qi) thus improving health and calming the mind.

Maureen is a movement specialist and pilates teacher qualified in both mat and studio work with the world leading Polestar Pilates.  Maureen’s aim is to educate you how to move your body more effectively in the sessions so that you can transfer this to everyday life and live without stiffness and pain.  Her client base is made up of both men and women and ranges from ages 25 to 85.  Her philosophy is that good movement should be easy – so her teaching focuses on helping you to make the exercise lessons feel physically easy, if you are using your body effectively (which she teaches you how to do!).  She teaches classes and individual sessions.

Julia is a fully qualified and insured reflexologist with a Level 5 Diploma from the Bayly School of Reflexology, accredited by the Association of Reflexologists. She is competent and trained to the highest standard in reflexology. She has undergone about 160 hours of tuition over a year, plus 100 hours of case studies. She works holistically, alongside conventional healthcare to promote better well-being for her clients and aims to help her clients to take control of their own health.

Julia sees clients for a wide range of general conditions but also specialises in Fertility and Maternity Reflexology. She completed specialist training in Fertility, Maternity and Postnatal Reflexology taught by a Consultant Midwife for NHS Fife and Reflexologist and also “Supporting Conception” and “Supporting Maternity” courses with the Maternity Specialist for the Association of Reflexologists.

Julia is also trained in the original form of Indian Head Massage (Champissage™) with the London Centre of Indian Champissage International – the first one to originate the Indian Head Massage developed by Narendra Mehta – guru of the British Indian head massage movement.
